Zagórz is a town and commune, which is developing buoyantly. A lot of new investments were realized last years and the aim of them was the town modernization, development of social - economic infrastructure influencing an improvement of people?s life conditions and rationalizing the tourist service.

Last 12 years were in the history of Zagórz the time of sweeping social and economic transformations. During this time, there has developped a high potential of skills and talents of commune citizens. That?s how the trade was mostly privatized, there raised new shops and those already existing changed their surface and holders. How very has the look of Zagórz and other places changed! After all not that long ago in the centre of Zagórz there were just 3 shops and 2 restaurants.
Nowadays, in Zagórz there are completely new companies that render services such as: meat processing, woodland, knitting, rubber goods production, building, etc. Most of the private enterprises are the retail trading and industrial companies, also a service industries. Yearly on average about 100 people do take up their own trades or change it to another. Currently there are 482 economic units on the area of the Town and Commune of Zagórz. They are mostly physical persons or small and medium firms.
Local authority at all terms have been conducting a very flexible tax policy, so that the budget returns of the commune were provided and the companies that were in critical financial situation still were able to perform. That?s how a part of tax charges was exchanged into a corporations shares. Besides, the commune council passed a resolution about reduced rates for economic units giving an employment or building new production structures. The favourable climate for enterprise development created by local authority was percieved by many, e.g. banks that located in Zagórz their divisions. There are:
National Savings Bank, Ltd. and Polish Guardian Bank, Ltd.
There have been underdaken some unorthodox operations that for observes seemed to be very risky. The commune was an active participant of the restructurization process of "Zasław"; it was also the cofounder of the Trailer?s & Semitrailer?s Plant and the Technical Services Workshop. The commune still owns the shares of several industries and is the 100% owner of the Technical Services Workshop. Together with the employees of the Trailers and Semitrailers? Plant our commune had in 2000 very difficult and dramatic time. Contemporary owner BHZ Tarnobrzeg almost bankrupted the corporation. Thanks to a very determined approach of the cooperation employees, Local administration of the Town Council and many willing people it was possible to make necessary changes of majority shares owner. So far the Trailers and Semitrailers? Plant hasn?t rebuilt its position after the " tarnobrzeski" management.
In the area of past "Zasław" there currently perform about 20 economic units producing mainly for export, employing together about 700 people. A new furniture company ?Liwex? was built and got off the ground.
With a great feeling of anxiety has the Local Administration watched the situation of the railway junction of Polish State Railways / PKP /. There was a plan to close the railway line Zagórz - Łupków and Zagórz - Krościenko, and that was the reason to protest together in many different ways. The commune participated in constructing the platform in Krościenko, to open the border crossing, save the employment in railway and stimulate a border trade. Today from Zagórz you can go by train to Koszyce and Chyrów, while 10 years ago this could be only a dream.
The next huge challenge to meet was the reorganization of a bus transport conducted in 1990 - 1991. In this time only 2 units provided transport services to the commune citizens:
The Municipal Economy Enterprise of Sanok and State Motor Transport Enterprise /PKS /. The first company did not gain any subsidies from a central budget and turned to the Zagórz Local Administration. Unfortunately a claim of the company considerably surpassed the financial possibilities of communal budget. In this situation local authorities opened the negotiations with the carrier of Sanok and as a result a part of a bus line going through the Zagórz commune was privatized. In this way there are 2 newly created private transporters / e.g. big as for Zagórz realities "TARZAN" /
